Visit to Charleston

Post started 3/20/07!
I've been slow in blogging about our recent trip to see Alison & Walter et al. As just mentioned in a comment on Baxter Sez, it was 2 weeks ago tomorrow that we arrived in Charleston. As always, we had a wonderful visit...with a lot of Lee saying, "You don't have to entertain us - we can just sit on the back porch and do crossword puzzles!" and a lot of Alison saying, "We have this and this and this to choose from. What do you want to do now?" Alison and I have always been more interested in going and seeing than Lee, although I do enjoy sitting and reading or knitting as a change of pace from time to time.

We saw some new things and ate at some new places, as well as re-visiting favorite eating places from other visits. We got to hear Walter play one night, and that was a real treat! Breakfast at Charleston Bookstore (was that the name of the place??) is a new favorite!

I'll see if I can enter some photos after the fact, as I left my camera downstairs. We went to see Angel Tree, the largest living organism east of the Rockies, if I remember correctly. I don't think I have a picture as good as Walter's, so maybe someone will tell me how to put a link here.

Then we went to see the only tea plantation in America, which also happens to be in Charleston! I had drunk their tea before, but hadn't realized it was grown in the US. It was very interesting to see, though I think we were there soon after harvest, so the tops of the bushes were flat-cut. We did get to see where they're planting new shrubs, though, so we did see that new growth.

We also got to meet Benya...what a cutie! I have a few pictures of her, but she moved around so much I don't think I got any that really showed her personality. She's a real charmer!

Visit to Richmond

I think it's time for a new post. I think we were in Destin last August, and that's the last thing showing here!

Last weekend we went to visit Trey and Megan in their new apartment in Richmond, VA. Probably anyone who happens to read this blog already knows that I went with them in the middle of January to help them move in, but they were still very much in boxes when I had to leave. I was really looking forward to seeing how much they'd been able to settle in in 3 weeks' time. They had done an amazing job of fitting all their belongings into a smaller apartment than they'd had here in Cookeville! It's a very cute apartment in a great location in the city. There are lots of things they can do within walking distance.

I remembered to take some pictures of the apartment just as we were ready to leave, so they're rather rushed, but here are a few plus one walking back from brunch on Saturday. You can see these and more on my Flickr account.

Other than trips to see my kids, my life just pretty much goes on from day to day. Each day I have lessons to teach and/or things to do to get ready for the next Wednesday's rehearsal or the next Sunday's service. Mastersingers is currently working on their annual fundraiser, which is a concert production of The Music Man, which will show on Saturday, Feb 24, 2007 at 3:00, for any close enough to attend. Other than those activities, we're currently planning a trip to see Alison & Walter in Charleston (and meet their new puppy, Benya!) the week of spring break. Maybe I'll have something to post again then!
