The chances are very strong that your husband’s PIEPMEIER family is descended from:

Herman Heinrich PIEPMEYER, Sex: M Birth: 2 OCT 1810 in Prussia Death: 28 MAY 1873 in St. Clair CO., MO

And his wife, Luciana Elizabeth WEILIGMAN, b: 7 OCT 1812 in Prussia

Through either of the two men whom are believed to have been their sons:

As you will notice in all of the information, there is a change of the spelling, (as with most of our surnames back 100 years ago backwards with this one changing back and forth from PIEPMEYER and PIEPMYER and PIEPMEIER and PIEPMIER and probably other spellings and you will notice census takers spelling it PREMIER further below.

These following names were found in ship’s registries but not sure of the years and one or both of the two men’s names at the top may actually be the Herman Heinrich PIEPMEYER

Beginning with the 1840 Census, I couldn’t find anything right offhand as to where any PIEPMEIER families might have been so I’m guessing that they immigrated between 1840 and 1880 when they are found:

St. Clair County is the home for George and Zelpha Ellis’ farm. George’s grandfather, Frederick (Fritz) W. Piepmeier, owned property on both sides of the Bates/St. Clair County line road but his home was on the St. Clair County property. At one time there was a property tax increase in St. Clair County causing the taxes to be quite a bit higher in St. Clair than in Bates County. Not wanting to pay any higher taxes than he had to, Fritz moved his house just across the road to his land in Bates County. The home remained there for the lifetime of Frederick, his wife, Luticia Gilbreath, and their daughter, Bess Piepmeier Sands.

The city of Hudson (located west of Appleton City) was established before Appleton City, Missouri. In 1870, when the railroad came through the area, it bypassed Hudson and passed through Appleton City. Since the railroad was very important to the community, Hudson could not survive. Most of the houses and buildings from Hudson were moved to Appleton City with teams of oxen. Fredrick Piepmeier’s wife, Luticia, told the story of watching the Hudson buildings being moved down the road, past their home and into Appleton City. Some of those buildings still remain in Appleton City today.

Frederick William is buried as a Civil War Veteran in The Appleton City Cemetery.

Frederick and Letitia have been married 30 years. Given some other errors on the entry, and the prevailing mores, I suspect they were married before Mary was born; either they were married earlier or she was born later.

26 iii. Leo Wilkins 1 was born on 10 Feb 1889 in Woodbine, Dickinson, Kansas. He died on 7 Sep 1889 in Woodbine, Dickinson, Kansas. He was buried in Woodbine Cem, Woodbine, Kansas.
Burried in the original Woodbine cemetery in Block 2.
Tombstone reads "1889-1889"
He is the only Wilkins in the Woodbine cemetery.

There is a problem here. Leo and LaSalle were supposedly born 10 Feb 1889 and 19 Aug 1889. That puts just 6 months and 9 days between the births. LaSalle says he was born Aug 1889 on the 1900 census and his death record has 19 Aug 1889. Leo was gone before there could be many records of him. Either LaSalle was consistently wrong and born a year later, or Leo was born a year earlier.

28 v. Archie Wilkins 1 was born on 17 Jul 1891 in Albany, Linn, Oregon. He died on 7 Feb 1899. He was buried in Picard Cem, Dorris, California.

Henry and his wife are on p. 261C. His older brother John Adolph, his sister Eliza and his widowed mother Anna are on page 260B.

I guessed that Fanny was no younger than 16 when she married, and they are married here, in 1880, so she probably got married 1878 - 1880. I also guessed that they didn't go out of the county to marry. They could have taken the train to Chicago when Fanny was 15, however; I'm just assuming they did the standard thing. I don't have a marriage record.

Henry John Piepmeier and Fennia Fanny Bailey were married between 1878 and 1880 in Bates County, Missouri (prob). Fennia Fanny Bailey 1,23 was born in 1861/62 in Missouri. She appeared in the census in 1880 in Hudson Twp, Bates, Missouri.


9. Matilda A. (Gilda, Tel, Tilda) Piepmeier 1,3,5,7,24 (Herman Henry-1) was born on 26 Jul 1855 in Appleton, St. Clair, Missouri. She appeared in the census in 1860 in Pleasant Gap, Bates, Missouri.
