This is information sent to me by an Up With People friend:
Hi, Kelly,
Bellinda Myrick-Barnett here.
The chances are very strong that your husband’s PIEPMEIER family is descended from:
Herman Heinrich PIEPMEYER, Sex: M Birth: 2 OCT 1810 in Prussia Death: 28 MAY 1873 in St. Clair CO., MO
And his wife, Luciana Elizabeth WEILIGMAN, b: 7 OCT 1812 in Prussia
Through either of the two men whom are believed to have been their sons:
Harmon H. PIEPMEIER, born: 1836 in St. Charles, Missouri
Frederick M. PIEPMEIER, born: 1841
As you will notice in all of the information, there is a change of the spelling, (as with most of our surnames back 100 years ago backwards with this one changing back and forth from PIEPMEYER and PIEPMYER and PIEPMEIER and PIEPMIER and probably other spellings and you will notice census takers spelling it PREMIER further below.
These following names were found in ship’s registries but not sure of the years and one or both of the two men’s names at the top may actually be the Herman Heinrich PIEPMEYER
Heinr Piepmeier
Her Piepmeier
Paulina Piepmeier
Emma Piepmeier
Piepmeier Name Meaning and History
German: distinguishing name for a tenant farmer (see Meyer), + Middle Low German pipe ‘pipe’, ‘drainage channel’.
Beginning with the 1840 Census, I couldn’t find anything right offhand as to where any PIEPMEIER families might have been so I’m guessing that they immigrated between 1840 and 1880 when they are found:
In the 1880 Census, the only PIEPMEIER families were found in MISSOURI:
MISSOURI - 8 to 14 families
In the 1920 Census, there were the following number of PIEPMEIER families in the following states starting with the heaviest PIEPMEIER populated state first:
MISSOURI - 6 to 10 families
NEW MEXICO - 3 to 5 families
WISCONSIN - 3 to 5 families
INDIANA - 3 to 5 families
OHIO - 3 to 5 families
KANSAS - 1 to 2 families
IOWA - 1 to 2 families
ILLINOIS - 1 to 2 families
NEW YORK - 1 to 2 families
NEW JERSEY - 1 to 2 families
Info from other than the census is a Bill R. PIEPMEIER, born: September 28, 1916, and his wife, Bernice Lillian Ella SCHWAUSCH who lived in Dallas.

[Article from unnamed County history]
St. Clair County is the home for George and Zelpha Ellis’ farm. George’s grandfather, Frederick (Fritz) W. Piepmeier, owned property on both sides of the Bates/St. Clair County line road but his home was on the St. Clair County property. At one time there was a property tax increase in St. Clair County causing the taxes to be quite a bit higher in St. Clair than in Bates County. Not wanting to pay any higher taxes than he had to, Fritz moved his house just across the road to his land in Bates County. The home remained there for the lifetime of Frederick, his wife, Luticia Gilbreath, and their daughter, Bess Piepmeier Sands.
The city of Hudson (located west of Appleton City) was established before Appleton City, Missouri. In 1870, when the railroad came through the area, it bypassed Hudson and passed through Appleton City. Since the railroad was very important to the community, Hudson could not survive. Most of the houses and buildings from Hudson were moved to Appleton City with teams of oxen. Fredrick Piepmeier’s wife, Luticia, told the story of watching the Hudson buildings being moved down the road, past their home and into Appleton City. Some of those buildings still remain in Appleton City today.
Frederick William is buried as a Civil War Veteran in The Appleton City Cemetery.
In 1880 the family is in Appleton, St. Clair, Missouri:

In 1900 the family is in Hudson, Bates, Missouri:

Walter F Piepmeier, 17, son, Feb 1883
Otto E Piepmeier, 14, son, Apr 1886
Lottie B Piepmeier, 10, dau, Nov 1889
Frederick and Letitia have been married 30 years. Given some other errors on the entry, and the prevailing mores, I suspect they were married before Mary was born; either they were married earlier or she was born later.
In 1910 the family is in Hudson, Bates, Missouri. The enumerator's hand was so bad that the indexer put Fred and family down as Frederick H Capwell, with a note he might be Frederick W Ciepmeier. None of the Piepmeiers got their names straight very often. This is how it is indexed:
Frederick H Capwell, 70, head, Missouri, Ger, Ger
Lutica Capwell, 60, wife, Mo, Ill, Ill
[All the kids Mo, Mo,Mo]
*** Capwell, 40, dau (Probably Mary)
Bessie Capwell, 32, dau
Frederick Capwell, 30, son
Otto Earl Capwell, 24, son
Lottie Capwell, 20, dau
Frederick Wilhelm (Fritz) Piepmeier and Luticia (Bessie) Gilbert were married in 1869/70 in Missouri. Luticia (Bessie) Gilbert 1,10-12 was born in 1850/51 in Missouri. She appeared in the census in 1880 in Appleton, St. Clair, Missouri. She appeared in the census in 1900 in Hudson Twp, Bates, Missouri. She appeared in the census in 1910 in Hudson Twp, Bates, Missouri. Frederick Wilhelm (Fritz) Piepmeier and Luticia (Bessie) Gilbert had the following children, all almost certainly born in either Bates or St. Clair County; which one is a good question. See the note on father, Frederick, about moving the house to avoid taxes
12 i. Mary E. Piepmeier 10-12 was born in Apr 1869 in Missouri. She appeared in the census in 1880 in Appleton, St. Clair, Missouri. She appeared in the census in 1900 in Hudson Twp, Bates, Missouri. She appeared in the census in 1910 in Hudson Twp, Bates, Missouri.

It looks to me like the "Ray L", age 26 on the 1900, is the "Leroy", age 4, on the 1880. Ted Pack.
15 iv. Bessie M. Piepmeier 10-12 was born in 1876/77 in Missouri. She appeared in the census in 1880 in Appleton, St. Clair, Missouri. She appeared in the census in 1900 in Hudson Twp, Bates, Missouri. She appeared in the census in 1910 in Hudson Twp, Bates, Missouri.

I'm assuming this is the son named "Else L" on the 1880.
17 vi. Walter Piepmeier 11 was born in Feb 1883 in Missouri. He appeared in the census in 1900 in Hudson Twp, Bates, Missouri.
18 vii. Otto Earl Piepmeier 11,12 was born in Apr 1886 in Missouri. He appeared in the census in 1900 in Hudson Twp, Bates, Missouri. He appeared in the census in 1910 in Hudson Twp, Bates, Missouri.

In 1880 the family is in Hudson, Bates, Missouri

Assuming Edward was at least 20 when they married, and they were married before Effie was born, we get 1873 - 1877 as a marriage date.
Mary Piepmeier and Edwin Parker Griffith were married between 1873 and 1877 in Missouri. Edwin Parker Griffith 1,7,13 was born on 1 Jan 1852 in Pennsylvania. 26 iii. Leo Wilkins 1 was born on 10 Feb 1889 in Woodbine, Dickinson, Kansas. He died on 7 Sep 1889 in Woodbine, Dickinson, Kansas. He was buried in Woodbine Cem, Woodbine, Kansas.
Burried in the original Woodbine cemetery in Block 2.
Tombstone reads "1889-1889"
He is the only Wilkins in the Woodbine cemetery.
There is a problem here. Leo and LaSalle were supposedly born 10 Feb 1889 and 19 Aug 1889. That puts just 6 months and 9 days between the births. LaSalle says he was born Aug 1889 on the 1900 census and his death record has 19 Aug 1889. Leo was gone before there could be many records of him. Either LaSalle was consistently wrong and born a year later, or Leo was born a year earlier.

I guessed that Fanny was no younger than 16 when she married, and they are married here, in 1880, so she probably got married 1878 - 1880. I also guessed that they didn't go out of the county to marry. They could have taken the train to Chicago when Fanny was 15, however; I'm just assuming they did the standard thing. I don't have a marriage record.

Here are some more recent pictures of pretty little Maybelle. The two in her carseat were just taken today as we were on the way to a sushi restaurant. Maybelle's first trip to a restaurant since birth! She was perfect, sleeping peacefully in her car seat the whole time we were there. Just wanted you all to see how beautiful she is!

Maybelle Biffle-Piepmeier
Maybelle was born approximately 5 weeks early on August 24, 2008, at 2:07 am. Mama and baby and Daddy are all resting and recouperating as best they can - some better than others. :-) Maybelle was 5.5# and 17 inches long. She's beautiful, as I hope you can see around the tubes and stuff attached to her in the neonatal nursery.

Back Yard Changes
We've had some changes in our back yard since Christmas. Our neighbor approached us about some trees on his property but our side of the dividing fence. The trees were showing signs of decay, and there was some concern that if they fell they would damage either their house or ours. While the workmen were here to take down the agreed-to trees, others were found to need to go - either because of decay or because they would be knocked down when the big ones were taken. Here are some photos I took soon after the day they were here. It took almost 1 1/2 days to get it all done.
This is not the time of year to do grass seeding or sodding, so the landscaper will come back in March to make the yard prettier. We also plan to get a tree to replace the one by the garage that was taken.

Visit to Charleston
Post started 3/20/07!
I've been slow in blogging about our recent trip to see Alison & Walter et al. As just mentioned in a comment on Baxter Sez, it was 2 weeks ago tomorrow that we arrived in Charleston. As always, we had a wonderful visit...with a lot of Lee saying, "You don't have to entertain us - we can just sit on the back porch and do crossword puzzles!" and a lot of Alison saying, "We have this and this and this to choose from. What do you want to do now?" Alison and I have always been more interested in going and seeing than Lee, although I do enjoy sitting and reading or knitting as a change of pace from time to time.
We saw some new things and ate at some new places, as well as re-visiting favorite eating places from other visits. We got to hear Walter play one night, and that was a real treat! Breakfast at Charleston Bookstore (was that the name of the place??) is a new favorite!
I'll see if I can enter some photos after the fact, as I left my camera downstairs. We went to see Angel Tree, the largest living organism east of the Rockies, if I remember correctly. I don't think I have a picture as good as Walter's, so maybe someone will tell me how to put a link here.

Then we went to see the only tea plantation in America, which also happens to be in Charleston! I had drunk their tea before, but hadn't realized it was grown in the US. It was very interesting to see, though I think we were there soon after harvest, so the tops of the bushes were flat-cut. We did get to see where they're planting new shrubs, though, so we did see that new growth.
We also got to meet Benya...what a cutie! I have a few pictures of her, but she moved around so much I don't think I got any that really showed her personality. She's a real charmer!

Visit to Richmond
I think it's time for a new post. I think we were in Destin last August, and that's the last thing showing here!
Last weekend we went to visit Trey and Megan in their new apartment in Richmond, VA. Probably anyone who happens to read this blog already knows that I went with them in the middle of January to help them move in, but they were still very much in boxes when I had to leave. I was really looking forward to seeing how much they'd been able to settle in in 3 weeks' time. They had done an amazing job of fitting all their belongings into a smaller apartment than they'd had here in Cookeville! It's a very cute apartment in a great location in the city. There are lots of things they can do within walking distance.
I remembered to take some pictures of the apartment just as we were ready to leave, so they're rather rushed, but here are a few plus one walking back from brunch on Saturday. You can see these and more on my Flickr account.
Other than trips to see my kids, my life just pretty much goes on from day to day. Each day I have lessons to teach and/or things to do to get ready for the next Wednesday's rehearsal or the next Sunday's service. Mastersingers is currently working on their annual fundraiser, which is a concert production of The Music Man, which will show on Saturday, Feb 24, 2007 at 3:00, for any close enough to attend. Other than those activities, we're currently planning a trip to see Alison & Walter in Charleston (and meet their new puppy, Benya!) the week of spring break. Maybe I'll have something to post again then!

Bill in Destin
This is Bill, the great guy who puts out our chairs & umbrellas each morning. This is who Lee says will need to go with us if we should ever decided to retire to the Charleston area. Just thought you'd like to meet him. :-)
Beach
Another view of the beach right behind our condo. Lee was playing with the camera on my phone. It did pretty good, huh? It's really beautiful here. We leave early tomorrow morning. We're now in the process of doing last minute laundry and getting ready to go out to eat for the last time this vacation. We've had a very good, relaxing time.
